The voice of Lata Mangeshkar turns 90 today, but it is as beautiful as it was back in time! Her voice is not only her true identity but also her calling and reason for glory. It can be said that, as long as Bollywood music is alive anywhere in this world, Lata Mangeshkar, with her songs, will be synonymous with Bollywood music.

She was born in 1929 to a Marathi theatre doyen Pandit Deenanath Mangeshkar, which made singing, music and acting in her blood. Her life was not just any other ordinary life but was a saga. Her father died at a very early age and she had to strip off her childhood to earn for her big family.

Her voice often got rejected for being too thin. India’s highly-beloved Nightingale is divinity personified but even the Goddess has her cynics. Over time she gained the required name and fame.  Spanning seven decades, her career is extraordinary.

On her 90th birthday, spend the day listening to these five Lata Mangeshkar songs. There are hundreds of songs that we can argue on and these five songs might not be her best. Still, these five should be enough to carry you through the day.

Tujhse Naraz Nahi Zindagi – Masoom

Humne Dekhi Hai In Aankhon Ki Mehakti Khusboo

Mere Pyar Ki Umar Ho Itni Sanam – Waaris

O Paalanhaare – Laggan

Kora Kagaz Tha Ye Man Mera – Aradhana

Here are a few people wishing the legend!

Happy birthday to Lata didi!
