“I am depressed”, said my eight-year-old cousin. On further questioning, she told me how her marks had been the reason behind her depression. In the 21st Century, it is the mental health conundrum that everyone is trying to crack. With poorly wired emotional circuits, every second incident in our lives leaves us negatively affected. It leaves us feeling weak and lonely, which in turn, adds to what we call, “Depression”.
Depression is a heavy word. Not everybody who thinks they are depressed is actually disturbed. They are sad or just low. Depression is a medical condition and is a bottomless abyss which has drowned more than half the population of the world. With increasing work hours and decreasing human contact, mental health has become a major issue. More often than not, cases of people cutting their wrists, committing suicides and becoming anti-social flash on the screens of our televisions and mobile phones, this problem is constantly on the rise and demands a solution to itself.
The easiest way out of these issues is to talk, to consult people who care. They could be anybody, your parents, family or even your friends. However, this is not an issue which can be generalized, hence, there are other ways, consult a therapist, pick up a hobby, develop a skill, play an instrument. No matter what, the catch is to distance yourself from the dark and approach the light. If you have already tried this, here’s something new on the block.
