The little girl in the movie ‘Chachi 420’, Fatima Sana Sheik, recently said that women in b-town are accustomed to unwanted sexual advances. Sexual abuse has become very conventional in the Bollywood fraternity.
Asked if she ever had to face sexual abuse, Fatima told Mumbai Mirror, “I don’t want to expose that side of my life… I’m dealing with it, speaking to people I’m close to. Just like I won’t judge those who want to share their horror stories, I expect not to be judged for not sharing mine.”
On being asked about Thugs of Hindostan, she said, “We were all disturbed, we had worked on the film for a-year-and-a-half,” she sighs. However, she does not regret doing the film: “Why would I not do a film like Thugs? I still don’t consider it a setback to my career.” She also confessed that there were days when she did not come out of her room and wanted to flee to somewhere else. The film was directed by Vijay Krishna Acharya, and the star-cast of the movie included actors such as Big B and Aamir Khan, but still, the movie did not do well at the box-office.
She appreciated #MeToo movement. She said, “Now sexual predators are scared of being shamed in public and shunned by the industry. For so many years we had normalized assault to such an extent that women had come to accept abuse as something that was normal.”
Fatima gets trolled on Instagram and receive negative comments very frequently. She told media that “I read all the comments, even the negative ones. I am amazed that people are so invested in me. If I can aggravate them, what can be better than that?”
