They say “once a leader, always a leader”. And late Shmt. Sheila Dixit has followed this approach her entire life. She became the leader not once but thrice and she made her share of contributions towards the development of Delhi.

Sheila Dikshit, who served Delhi as the Chief Minister for 15 years, passed away today around 7:40 PM. She was admitted to Fortis Escorts Heart Institute today morning in a very critical condition. As per the reports, she was suffering from a cardiac problem.

Sheila Dikshit is the only female politician in the history of political india, who has served as Chief Minister 3 times. This female Chief Minister of Delhi also underwent a heart surgery last year in France. In 2012, she went through angioplasty procedure for the treatment of arterial atherosclerosis.

Sheila Dixit’s Early Life:

The former Delhi Chief Minister was born on 31 March 1938 in a very small town of Punjab, Kapurthala. She did her schooling from Delhi as well as completed her masters from Delhi University.

She became a Member of Parliament in 1984 from Kannauj, which is a district in Madhya Pradesh and since then she has left several political veterans behind during her political career.

Her entry into politics:
Former Delhi Chief Minister’s entry into politics was mostly because of her family connections and relationships with politicians.  She happened to be the daughter-in-law of late Unna Shankar Dikshit, who fought really hard against the British Raj and lived his life fighting for the dream of ‘Independent India’. Unna Shankar Dikshit, a remarkable activist, became Union Cabinet Minister during Indira’s government.

The Saga of 3 Time Chief Minister:

She gained the opportunity of serving as the Chief Minister of Delhi in 1998 when she defeated BJP which was Congress’ biggest opposition during that time.

Prime Minister Narendra Modi, President Ram Nath Kovind, Congress Leader Rahul Gandhi and Delhi Chief Minister Arvind Kejriwal have expressed their concern over the loss of an old-timer.

Bollywood celebrities are paying homage to Sheila Dixit in their tweets.

Sheila Dixit’s state funeral is planned for tomorrow. Over the loss of 3 time Chief Minister of Delhi, current Delhi Government has announced two day mourning.
