With no approved treatment for the novel virus, doctors all around the world are trying to mix several solutions that might help people fight diseases. The respiratory illness caused by the novel virus needs to be taken care of while experimenting the drugs.

The Ministry of AYUSH and the Council of Scientific and Industrial Research are working together to formulate four traditional medicines that  will be tried as an add-on therapy & standard care for Coronavirus patients.

Kotecha said that the AYUSH and CSIR collaboration has a very large perspective. This is a once in a lifetime opportunity, he added.

This type of study has never been conducted in the country. The four elements to formulate traditional medicine are – Ashwagandha, Yashtimadhu [Mulethi], Guduchi + Pippali [Giloy] and AYUSH-64

Ayurveda practices have existed much before. Therefore, it is important to validate some Ayurvedic practices to prepare an add-on therapy for COVID-19 patients. Ayurveda is based on many years of clinical practices, so we trust Ayurveda.

Over 100 potential COVID-19 vaccines are now under development by biotech and research teams around the world. At least 6 of these are under preliminary testing in people that are known as Phase 1 Clinical Trials.

The AYUSH minister is quite hopeful that the traditional medicine system will find a way to protect people from this infection.
