Chartered accountancy (CA) students started protesting against the Institute of Chartered Accountants of India (ICAI) demanding a re-evaluation of their answer sheets. Hundreds of students are still sitting on protests since Monday against the Institute of Chartered Accountants of India (ICAI), demanding their right to get their answer sheets revalued. The student’s demand to ICAI is to increase transparency in the paper checking process.
The protests started on Monday and sought ICAI to amend Regulation 39(4) of the Chartered Accountants Act of 1949. According to the already existing regulation, students cannot use their copy of the answer paper to ask for revaluation by ICAI. While the student can demand a re-totaling of marks but they cannot expect the ICAI to examine the merit of not awarding marks for a particular answer.
Though the ICAI announced reforms in the evaluation of answer books of CA exams on September 21, faculty members and students slammed the reforms, calling it vague and non-transparent.
Based on the vague reforms that are announced by the ICAI, faculty members of the ICAI like Neeraj Arora and Parveen Sharma accused the ICAI’s system to be unfair and requested the students to join them on a special protest in front of its Delhi office demanding a fair and stable evaluation system.
The topic picked up a lot of heat and students from all over have taken over their social media accounts to
rise up their voices!
