Face to face meetings was said to be the most convenient and possibly the
the best form of meeting every till this deadly virus came into the picture. In the year 2020 virtual meetings have become the new normal. It goes without saying that people pay more attention to things and to one another when they can see the person who is referring them or they’re talking to. Now, all possible companies have started working remotely making virtual meetings their new normal.

Unfortunately, for all the benefits these newly famous virtual meetings have, they are also incredibly easy to screw up. Everyone thinks they know what they’re doing but they’ve never been trained to do it.

Here are some tips for looking like a pro:

Overhead lighting is possibly the worst kind of lighting fixtures for video
conferences that you can even think of as it makes shadows beneath your
eyes making you look droopy and disinterested. Unfortunately, that’s what
most of us corporate beings have by using as default. You may not care
approximately the lights if you’re doing a brief snow-day check-in with the
group you’ve labored with for four years. But for high-stakes situations (like
job interviews) while you need to look your best, we recommend using 3
natural, soft mild sources: two at the back of your netcam (one at the left,
one on the right) and one right in the back of you.

Are you usinga webcam clipped to the top of your monitor? The likelihood is that it’s not capturing you from the perfect angle, the angle that is suitable and you would desire. If it’s angled down more than required, you’ll put your fellow meeting-goers within the position of towering over you. The best angle that makes you look appropriate is keeping your web cam lens right at eye level. A tripod can make you get the right angle and is sure to hold the camera steady.

If you’re using the inbuilt camera on your laptop, it’s going to be too low–and looking up your nose. While it’s not ideal, you’ll put hardcover books under your laptop until the angle’s right. The right angle is said to be the one which captures your forehead to your left shoulder and right shoulder in the frame.

Why to dress up it’s just a video call is the thought that dominates every
mind. We understand that only your face and shoulders are in the frame, but you never know when you’ll need to stand up for some reason. So it’s
advisable to look decent and put-up from head to toe. Put some amazing,
solid colors around you, just like how news anchors do. Check your teeth for stuck ins. Make sure you are sitting at the right temperature so that you
don’t sweat, and won’t need to start taking off layers, which is disconcerting
for all watching.

Less obvious? Make sure you’ve got the right chair. Fidgeting is fine on
audio but deadly when you can see someone moving like a hyperactive
schoolboy in the corner of your screen.

Keep in mind that while video calling the people you’re meeting with will be treated to the view of whatever is behind you through the whole meeting. Junk and clutter is bad enough. Your bed with piles of dirty laundry and a baby chilling on it is highly unprofessional. Or worse, you may have something sitting there that’s part of the scenery to you but jarring to everyone else. It is advisable to invest in what’s called “seamless paper”. We now will be having remote working for long and virtual meetings will be a part of us forever, so a little investment on something professional will make you go a long way. This way you won’t have to tidy p your house each time you have a meeting. (Almost daily)

If you are a startup and have to meet a lot of your clients virtually, the most
effective way to improve your backdrop is to paint a spot of wall with the
company colors and a copy of the company logo to serve as the backdrop.

This is sure to make you look like a million bucks. You look like this
incredibly established company. It’s a very low-cost way to make yourself
come across as a professional big business.

When having a meeting inform you, family members, beforehand so that they are well updated and won’t walk in absurdly to pick in their essentials from that room leaving you awkward. If you have babies make sure to ship them off to a room from where their devil cries can’t be heard. Pets too. A barking dog can ruin a conversation, as can a cat that runs across your keyboard. If you are wondering what else should I keep in mind, take this line as a reminder. “If you wouldn’t want it in a live meeting you shouldn’t have it on a video conference.” Making yourself reminded of this line, will solve a lot of your problems.
